Default IACV - High Idle - Measurement

Ok, so I've been driving the Land Pig daily now for about a year. 120 miles a day M-F for about two months lately. No real issues until now.

Start it up Saturday and it revs up to about 2,000. Drove it the weekend like that. Monday I take the IACV out, clean it and TB. Not terrible bad dirty. Measured distance from bottom of pintle to step/collar. Right at 12mm. Did this before I cleaned it. Remeasured and put back in. Fired it up and idled right at 700. Groovy! Not really.

Next start up revs right back up to 2,000. Take it back out. Still at 12mm. Picked new one (Jeep) up at parts house. Adjusted it to 12mm. Put it in. Same result. First start idles at 700. Off and start back up and 2,000 again.

No codes. TPS at 12%. IAT and Coolant Temp same as ambient (cold engine). Now if I jam it in gear, R or D, idle will come back down to 1,000 and if I turn A/C on it rpm jumps just a bit and returns to 1,000 when A/C is off.

Do I need to find a COMPETENT independent shop to get the adaptive values reset?

Yes

I tried everything just like you did and having the values reset was the final fix. Haven't had a problem in a year now

I'd guess you have a vacuum leak on the intake side somewhere. At least that is where I'd start.

I second the "yes" but also agree that something might have caused the ECU to lose it's setting. PCV system, intake, vacuum lines. Double check that they're in good shape, working/open and cinched down. Also check the ECU's connector and the IACV's for water intrusion, dielectric grease pins. Try this, give the new IACV a little more length like 13mm and see if that makes any difference. The pintle should sit on the plenums seat and only crack open enough to give you the balance of air around the throttle plate to hit the 650-700 mark.

Thanks all for the replies. Going to tinker some more over the weekend.
Two weeks ago replaced both PCV hoses and cleaned the silly little baffle thingy on the right.
Have a nagging suspicion it might be related to the hard line that goes back to the emission crap.

Tinker away, I kinda wanna find out if you find anything. I'm not a big fan of having to get a hook up to keep things in order. The Rooskis being the clever devils they are have Windows 95 laptops running Testbook T4 bootlegged software to keep their Rovers running.

Haven't had a HUZZAH moment yet.

Found this though when I was undoing the vac line to get more room.

That was neat. Wasn't the problem though.
