I like many have found it hard to throw away things that just might be usable.
Like that almost usable hood liner.
I can't help but wonder if...
A) can't we use some epoxy based substance on the back to strengthen it to keep it from sagging?
B) on the engine side - any one consider materiel glue and new black fire retardant materiel to renew that side?
C) I have sprayed mine with black grill paint I had to cover the color issues and i does look better - for a while..?
These are just some ideas I have had because my D1 is being kept at the most stock configuration I can handle and I know I am the exception.
Most have already been modified to the point of -- who cares about the liner..
But if these ever are to become a rare and favorable item years from now the stock ones will be the best to own.. I think..
Other ideas??
The engine bay insulation foam isn't worth keeping if it's sagging or chewed up or whatever. You can buy new insulation foam and use the current liner as a template. Cut it to fit, buy new round clips and install. The original isn't going to affect the value of these vehicle. I am getting ready to do this exact thing myself. If anything, having a fresh piece of insulation foam under there will look much better than the original.

Thanks.. I still struggle with this due to the aftermarket items looking so much like .. aftermarket products.
I really don't like the shiny metal look.
I have been looking for replacement felt or foam like material to cut in the shape of what I have but it's hard to find.
Will be nice to see what you come up with - please post.
Thanks
I used a new MBZ foam pad that is a very close fit - my original Landy pad attracted mice and now not a creature is stirring
this is the pad

Hey! That looks like a great idea.
It even seems like a better cost factor compared to aftermarket products.
Got a picture of the finished project? or the dimensions?
And can you / have you cut it to match the original?
Thanks
I just removed the hood and placed it on a couple of moving blankets cleaned it with acetone then sprayed it with contact cement using a cheap HF spray gun once it was dry I pressed it in to the crevices beginning in the center and worked my way outward. Any overspray can be cleaned up with acetone once it dries. It's the same way I did the headliner.
This may sound like a basic question, but exactly what is the purpose of the insulation under the hood?? Keep the hood cool? keep the motor warm? sound deadening? lots of theory but no specific answer...
My 99 D1 is missing the under hood insulation and I see the hood flexing when I am at speeds and heavy winds.Could this be a contributing factor to my truck running hot when the temps are hotter out? My 97 had the insulation and I did not have the same problems
