Go to Land Rover Parts & Rover Accessories From Atlantic British | Discovery, Range Rover, LR3, LR2, Defender, Freelander and Land Rover Series Parts & Accessories and order the upper, lower and heater hoses.
They are pricey but they will last you forever.
Go to AutoZone and buy a new thermostat and gasket, in the tech section is the part number for the gasket.
I use a 195*F t-stat.
Replace your hoses, t-stat and flush the system.

Heat up a pot of shallow water to around 190-200*F. Drop that puppy in there and watch for it to open.

Just PLEASE do NOT use a pot that you are going to be cooking with, engine coolant will kill you.
Your t-stat has been soaking in coolant for who knows how long and if you put that into a pot and boil it on your stove you run the risk of killing your kids.
Thermostats are cheap, just go buy a new one and be done with it.

Actually, glycol diluted to less than 5% glycol and 95% water is no longer considered hazardous to people. At least, in small quantities

FYI for those that may get a little coolant in their mouth while working on their vehicle. You don't need to freak out, just rinse out.

I was replacing hoses on my 96, and I kept having coolant splash in my face while under the truck, so I put on goggles, to keep it out of my eyes. I figured I would just keep my mouth closed, and I'd be fine. Turns out that standing on your head will allow it to pour right up your nose, and then into your mouth and throat.

I didn't freak out, but I did google how much coolant I could swallow before I had to worry about dying.

Am I the only to notice how insanely clean the engine of that truck is?
