When left in the middle it turns on and off when the doors open and close. Even dims out appropriately
If it is doing above, then bulb is OK. The mechanical dome light switch also applies a ground to the bulb in the "ON" position, this will use a short black wire from the switch to a bolt on the metal of the truck. If switch is bad or wire is broken, the "ON" position won't work.
