Intermittent Ticking
I have had an intermittent warm ticking for more than a year now - coming from top / front drivers-side bank - cylinder 1 or 3 area - my best guess is rocker shaft assembly - it hasn't caused any other issues other than the tick - there is never a tick on cold engine and isn't always there on a hot engine
The heads have been done - new lifters - new oil pump - new water pump at time. Exhaust manifold tight - proper LR gaskets in good shape
Any guesses ?

My 96 SE ticks since 2015. New lifters, rocker arms and shafts, new cam, head gaskets, new crank and rod bearings, new timing chain and oil pump. Thin oil or thick oil. Varies as engine heats up. Starts right up, runs great. I figure the ticks come from an exhaust leak or leaks. Perhaps where the manifolds join the heads, or maybe somewhere else. I used MLS gaskets at the heads. Using composite type gaskets sealed up the '94 better than MLS. I have stopped worrying about it, but let us know if you find out anything.
As John indicates, a slight exhaust leak at the manifold to head joint can sound like an engine tick. Sometimes you can fix it by tightening the manifold to head bolts. At any rate, this type of tick isn’t serious. This is not just a Land Rover thing. I’ve had this on 2 or 3 other V8’s I’ve had over the years.
