I don't think I would want Jerry Cans Mounted to the top of the vehicle. Think of the wind resistance they will create, especially if standing up. And with 5 gallons of fuel sloshing around that high up, that would be detrimental plus all the added height it will give.
If they should come off, lookout below and behind.
I have see them mounted on the rear bumper.

There are holes already in the bottom of the holder that could be used to bolt it to the rack/flat stock.
I will have two of them eventually which I think will have it easier to mount.

Second the cans will not be up there all the time, the strap comes off, and it is lockable so no one can steal your Jerry can.
The base stays on all the time.
Petroleum weighs 6.6lbs per gal, the empty can weighs about 2lbs, so that is a total weight of about 35lbs per full Jerry can, with two of them yes that is alot of weight, but I am not talking about running the Gingerman Raceway, I am talking about a extended offroad trip or a "bug out" situation.
Here is a link to the can mount, I got it as a gift as well as the Jerry can, and yes, it is a actual Jerry can.
