Default Just found out that I've been using Dex Cool.

Was working in the garage and noticed that I have been using dex cool antifreeze. How screwed am I? Also what antifreeze works with rovers?

Thanks Collin

Most people will tell you to change it for the green stuff. I run dex and have never had an issue. You have to change it and keep the system free of air.

Hot topic, get ready for the fireworks.

I like fireworks...!!!!

Dexcool is not as forgiving towards lack of maintenance as the "green stuff" is. You will not kill anything using Dexcool as long as you monitor it's conditions regularly and change it when needed.

We won't tell anyone if you change it now and burn the old containers in the yard as an offering to the lesser Rover gods.

Put green coolant in it, this isn't just a "rover thing" kind of issue.

Good ole prestone antifreeze is fine. That being said my wife's SAAB does just fine with dex.

According to AllData...
Engine coolant Special Blend Ethylene Glycol Use an ethylene glycol bases anti-freeze (containing no methanol) with non-phosphate corrosion inhibitors suitable for use in aluminum engines to ensure the protection of the cooling system against frost and corrosion in all seasons

Yeah....believe that!

Back in the days, I tore down a rotary engine that I got for free. I found that it had a nice hole from from the water passage, in the aluminum housing. The owner of that engine never replaced the coolant.....the water turn sooo corrosive it ate it alive!!!!
