Default Just Wondering..

When you guys drain your different fluids what do you use?! I have an oil pan that I use for oil and transmission fluid..that's about it. I can't keep drinking those 2 liter coke bottles everyday because I'm starting to get yelled. Lulz Is there a magic never ending fluid container I need? If so, please enlighten me. Thanks!

I use the same pan for everything. I have one with a flap on top so it won't spill when I take it to the parts house to drain it. Make sure if you get something else that it will take all of the fluid the crankcase pours out. It is fast! I got one that you could seal, but it wouldn't let the oil get into it fast enough.

Didn't really follow the 2 litre thing, but if you are talking about filling them with used fluid, just take them to your local parts house and empty them.. They should let you do it for free...

Save your empty washer solvent, anti freeze and gallon motor oil jugs.
Get one of these drain pans.

Then buy these.
This one for your used oil, you stick it into your empty container and you can set your oil filter in it to drain as well as pour your used oil into the empty jug.

Then buy one on these for the new oil.

And one more for the transmission fluid.

Make sure you use each one for their intended purpose, do not use the used oil funnel for adding new oil.
Make sure each "clean fluid" funnel is clean before you add your new oil/trans fluid.
You do not want to introduce dirt to the engine/transmission.

When you buy your motor oil buy 2 one gallon jugs, you will have one empty one.
Take your clean engine oil funnel and put it into the gal oil jug that still has oil in it, then take your "empty" oil jug and turn it upside down in the funnel.
Let it drain overnight.
Do the same with your gear lube and ATF bottles.
You will be surprised at how much fluid is left in a "empty" oil bottle.
Any quick lube will take your used oil and filter for disposal for free.
You can reuse your used oil jugs, just make sure you mark them as used oil so you dont accidentally think it is clean oil and add by mistake.
If you want to go industrial go to a restaurant and ask for a empty frier oil jug, its a 5 gal clear plastic just with a huge mouth and big handle.

Switch to milk, it's better for you and you get a whole gallon.

I use one of these:

Holds about 12 qts or so. I have a couple of old 20 litre jerry cans I keep the oil in until I recycle it.

Yes you can use one drain pan for all of your fluids.
You can mix everything EXCEPT bake fluid.
Trans fluid, motor oil, gear lube, engine coolant are all recyclable and have a infinite life.
Brake fluid is corrosive and must be incinerated to be properly disposed of.
If brake fluid is mixed with engine oil then that mixture cannot be recycled.
I used to work for a oil re-refiner and I had to learn all about this stuff.
I dont like the pan Tom has because I dont think the oil drains through the hole in the middle fast enough and you cant see how full it is.
But it does have the nice spot to set the oil filter to let it drain.

The short answer, yes, you can use the same drain pan for everything.
The only thing you need to remember is to use a different drain pan for brake fluid.

All recyclers I've seen specifically say not to mix coolant with used oil.
All oils can be mixed.
