Has anyone found some after market ones to replace these crappy ones, every Disco I've seen at the junk the right rear lamp is always jacked up.

I'm sick of those lights, they're a pain to remove and mess with .

If new ones cost near $100 each, I'm fine with payin 150 if I don't have to stick my hand in there again.

Right now I got it rigged with some foil...

 

What exactly is the problem with them??? Mine are just fine and dandy and have been for years. And access to replace the bulbs is actually quite easy compared to the D2's. You could always install LED bulbs. But the problem with them is they can be very directional and often need some sort of optic to focus or diffuse the beam.

 

I have man hands, lol. The top bulb gets too hot and melts the area.

Mmmmm hmmm. If the top bulb gets too hot I would be looking into WHY and not trying to fix it by installing an LED. Its like the Mechanics where I work not being able to find the parasitic draw on the truck battery so they install a battery cut of switch.

You have a fault somewhere. In the 11 years I've had my '95 I've replaced maybe 3 bulbs in the tail lights.

 

I've seen this on 3 different discos. If I have a fault how would I locate it?

 

You'd need to check the resistance in the circuit. High resistance will cause a circuit to overheat.

As for wattage, everything in the light assembly should be 21 watts, except the tail lights which are 5 watts. I think you're confusing watts and volts.

 

like antichrist mentioned, i think youre confusing volts with watts. ive only ever seen melted lens housings due to wrong wattage bulbs.
