Hello, I will try to keep this clearly as possible.
Just got Discovery I for swap. But first I need to start it. SALJY1246TA522304 is VIN for it. Engine is 4.0 V8 petrol, Automatic transimission, 1996 as documents say. Okay, so there is two keys that came with it. None of them unlocks or locks any door or ignition. So I dissasemble ignition lock and crank it. It cranks, but wont start. I can hear fuel pump running. If I spray starting fluid to it it goes to 2000RPM and dies, so there is spark, I think it cuts of. No immo or any other red light on dash. What is the problem? I still think it is 99% Immo relaited. Another thing is that while driver's door is dissasemlbed, there is small button in there, what is that? I tried pressing it, nothing visible happens, but one time i got it running for a few seconds longer while spraying starting fluid. Any ideas?
Are you sure there is fuel pressure in the rail. Just because the pump is running doesn't mean a line or filter can't be clogged. It can be checked at the schrader valve on the fuel rail.
Crankshaft sensor wiring or damaged teeth on the flywheel. Check wiring first near the exhaust. If its all good pull the bellhousing inspection plate and check for bent teeth
Spraying starting fluid and it runs sounds like a fuel problem to me. check the voltage at the fuel pump (rear floor should have a panel to remove to get to it). You will only have voltage at the pump for about 15 sec when you turn on the key. If that is not there, check the inertia switch under the hood. A black button with 2 wires out the bottom on the firewall, pass side. mine was a problem with the connector being corroded, once I cut the wires and put on new ends, plugged it back in and it worked fine. Thee is also a connector that can cause trouble too.
Rent a fuel pressure gauge from the parts store and check pressure at the fuel rail. The fuel pump may be moving but not enough pressure.
Or you could do the bush test for fuel pressure. Turn the key and depress the schrader valve at the fuel rail. If the fuel stream shoots over the fender then its probably good.
