Leakey rearend-umm not mine, but my Discos
My D1s rear center section is leaking like a sive. Just sticking my head under the truck looks to me like it comes apart like a ford 9"???? Pull the rear drive shaft and both axels to pull the center free and replace the gasket?
Its easier then a 9" you dont even need to remove the wheels. Hardest part is getting the driveshaft bolts out. While its out its a good time to check an adjust backlash, its amazing how much quieter the driveline is when adjusted properly.
Before pulling anything apart remove the axle breather and make sure it is not clogged.
The banjo bolt likes to rust shut and then pressure builds up inside the diff and it leaks like the Titanic.
Replace the breather and no more leaks and it only cost $25 and takes 15 min.

That's how I tell when my breather is plugged, starts leaking from the pinion seal. Pull the banjo, clean it out with a small drill bit or paper clip, give a shot of carb cleaner in the tube and blow some air with an air gun, no more leak. Until it plugs again, then I start all over.

X1000!!!
I have just gotten into the habit of doing this once a year, every spring when I change all of my driveline fluids I do this.
If it is to rusted then I buy a new one.
