Hi All
Need urgent information.
My Disco 1 TDi is now seriously in need of new coil springs and Shocks.
I have decided on Terrafirma Heavy duty coils and Long travel shocks.
Unavailable in Mozambique but Coil spring manufactures is South Africa can make a good Quality spring for Quarter of price against import from UK.
Question: With 2'' body lift do I need to order coils 2'' longer than standard.
Your info will be highly appreciated.
Regards
Hercu

A body lift has no bearing on spring length since the springs sit between the axle and the frame.

WHILE THE body lift will allow for larger tiresit does not give you longer suspension articulation nor does it get your drivetrain higher, i am not sure how much longer the 2" lift coils are over the originals

guess in the end it depends what you do with the truck, if you cross water I would imagine you want the suspension lifted instead of just the body

Hi Tom R

Thank you for info.
Terrafirma claims a nearly 3'' lift with heavy duty coils. That's why they recommend Long travel shocks with the heavy duty coils. I might get a longer wheel travel.
Although my feeling is that with no larger rims and tyres the diffs will stay on the original clearance. The transmission boxes. engine and Prop shafts will be higher though.
Water crossings ???? yes, in Mozambique you never know when is the next flood. Muddy and Sandy roads with a very high middle is general.

Kind regards

What size tires are you wanting to run? You can run 32" tires on a 2" lift no problem. If you keep your 2" body lift any tire smaller than a 32" will look funny. Too much lift and too much tire is silly. A good goal is the biggest tire possible with the least amount of lift.

something else to remember with the body lift you are messing with the center of gravity realy making the truck real top heavy more so then with the suspension lift alone

I had a chevy truck with a 4" suspension and 3" body and took off the body lift did not like how the truck felt even with the sway bars

Hi fishEH
Yes, so many pro's and cons!!
Problem in Mozambique: if the truck is registered with 145/70/R16's by law you may not alter the tyre size or the whole registration process starts from 0. In this 3 rd world country it is not an experience I wish my worst enemy.
(Might take up to six months).
I believe that the best solution will be larger tyres with the Long Travel shocks and heavy duty coils.

Hi TOM R
Surely yes, I have always thought to get rid of the body lift and do the suspension lift.
This is the main reason I want to Install Long Travel Shocks and Heavy duty Coils.
The body lift definitly makes the roll and swaying worse especially driving on the Sandy roads where the Toyota's , Nissan's and Mitchibusi's duck graves to climb a Sand dune.
Thank you and please keep me posted on any thoughts
