Default Loctite 372...

I have searched and found nothing. The manual says to use Loctite 372. What should I use?

TIA

ON what ?

If it needs to stay use blue..That's good enough for most things... If you hope you'll never take it apart again. Use red...

If you want to screw someone over and have them break the fastener off.. Use green...

However, Locktite 37230 is anti sieze paste...

So Like I said.. ON what ?

IIRC 372 is a thread sealant. To prevent leaks rather than a thread locker.

I am re-sealing a front engine cover because of a coolant leak.

The manual specs:

Front Cover Gasket

Refit

29. Clear threads of cover fixing bolts, apply Loctite 372 to threads.

I am just not sure what Loctite 372 to treads is? It could be a sealant the front cover bolts do go next to a coolant channel. Two of the bolts I took out next to the leaking channel were rusty.

Should I also use some gasket sealant on the front engine cover gasket? If so a non-hardening sealant? The manual list hylosil 101 or 106.

Ask me about Jeeps, WV Bugs, 912 Porsches, or Chevy Blazers, and I know a lot. Rovers are new to me.

Thanks for any information.

Do you think they mean something like Never Seez? That could be possible.

Now that I know what it is... I'd definately use something like good old Permatex. Or the 37230 as called for...

Comes in a can or a tube.. I usually keep a tube around...

Years ago whomever Permatex sponsored in racing, They would run their engines without any gaskets... Just permatex...

Oops, I double checked. I was thinking of loctite 572, as used on the water pump fixings.

If used around the water pump or coolant passages:

Thread Sealants : Permatex® High Performance Thread Sealant

Careful not to strip threads when using this as it acts as a lubricant.

Well, after a lot of calls to Rover North America, Loctite, Henkel (owns Loctite) and a local Rover dealer.

Loctite 372 is maybe Loctite 37230, which is an Silver Grade Anti-Seize paste.

Loctite QuickStix Silver Grade Anti-Seize - Henkel

37230 is an item number. That is the only information I have been able to put together.

A anti-seize paste does make sense too.
