Default Looking to buy a 99 Disco 1 - Need Feedback

Well, I posted in the introductions section, but thought I might have better luck here.

https://lubbock.craigslist.org/cto/d...733644417.html

I'm new to Land Rovers, but not new to maintenance and repairs. We have been wanting an older LR or jeep to play with - would not be a daily driver. Something for me and the kids to drive around the ranch or in town on occasion. Obviously the big issue with this one is the 4x4 disconnect. Any insight/advice as to how extensive of a repair this is for LRs?

Thanks.

"4×4 was disconnected by guy I bought from was told he was doing some kind of work to make it into some kind of 4*4 beast. *♀️ Also has a driving quirk (was made to drive like a stick without clutch) related to 4*4 work previous owner was doing. 4*4 is in the middle seat section."

WTF

Anyone who says they disconnected the 4x4 in a AWD gear driven transfer case has no place holding a wrench.
This is a project from what is sounds like.
You need a Rover experienced person to go with you - the 'disconnected 4x4' may just be the CDL disconnected.
The ZF tranny should shift smooth - not rough at all.

Honestly unless you plan on doing all the work yourself and getting into a project...... - skip.

Thanks for the feedback. In one of the pics you can definitely see a drive/prop shaft sitting on the floorboard of the backseats. Ive removed/reinstalled driveshafts before, but not on an LR, and never after an AWD had been disconnected and driven (ive seen people convert awd to fwd though, an assume they do something similar).

It's definitely a project. If he's just torn out the front prop shaft, it could be as simple as reinstalling it. If he's messed with the transfer case, though, it could be a vegetable. The thing is, with one prop shaft gone, the only way the car will drive is with the CDL engaged. But that's what I'd assume the PO was fixing to "turn it into some kind of 4x4 beast"...

The "driving quirk" is scary, "made to drive like a stick without a clutch?" Definitely sounds like some hooptie transmission hackery. I'd always recommend a D1 for someone looking for a great project, but this may be more than you're bargaining for... On the upside, the tires look great!
