Default Loose steering

I have some play in my steering wheel. When I was changing my waterpump last year someone was helping me and told me that there is a bolt that I can tighten on my gear box to help with the play in my steering wheel. Is there something like that on my gear box? He said he worked for land rover and I believe him. I just want to know how much to tighten it?

dont tighten it more than a quarter turn at a time then tighten the locking nut after each turn, drive it and feel how it feels, First i would check the bushings and balljoints, to make sure THERE not the problem before i went for the gearbox. And the screw is on top of the gearbox, looking right back up at you when you look down on it.

Check the nut on the Pitman arm, if it is loose you can have loose steering feel, if it falls off you will crash and die.

Yes. Even Rovers that have been crushed in salvage yards hold their shape- a box.

The DI was t-boned by a semi and the guy walked away, the DII was rolled at 65 mph.

So yeah, they are pretty much indestructible.

My steering had some play because the bearings needed to be Repacked. Not much but after the repack the steering is great.
