loud whine from t/case or auto
sorry guys this thread is a hot topic.
1994 v8 auto, loud whine from t/case or auto, i just cant pinpoint 100% the item needing replacment.
ok here goes.
whine varies with speed, changes in pitch as it goes up the gears.
on accel and decell. when t/case is in hi and lo and also when in neutral.
when in low range noise is far quicker and higher pitch.
i removed PTO cover and removed input gear, was still a noise but i couldnt be sure it was the same noise.
ok work done. Both auto and t/case were used when put in.
new auto filter and oil.
t/case oil new then changed to much heavier oil. no change
A land rover repairer informed me after the above was described to him over the phone, that it is likely the t/case intermittent gear bearings are common to whine.
Thoughts please.

"helper" fluids include:
LUBEGARD Gear Fluid Supplement
Transmission
I reduced the noise in my TC at 180K with some Lubegard, the base of their product line is a synthetic molecule that is very very long, and approximates the oil from sperm whales that used to be found in transmission fluid. It also knocked down the AT pump noise in SWMBO Kia van.

Rover had a couple of bearing oiling issues to the extent that they made some internal changes to prevent it. If this is what is causing the noise, nothing you can do but wait and save up some money for a newer used t/case in the 97 thru 99 D1 years.
Would those issues also apply to the internals of a 5spd? And are there issues with mating a 97/99 TCase onto a 5spd? I started hearing some things that aren't neccessarily good ones from both on mine, and both are used parts with under 150k supposedly.
