Default m62 V8 repower

hi all

just hunting for info at this stage, i have been offered a m62 V8. or bmw 4.4 litre pre vanos engine for next to nothing in cost.
from what i can gather on the web the bmw auto is a ZF auto, the same as the disco auto behind the rover V8,
is it a stretch to think the land rover auto would bolt directly to the V8? or do they have interchangeable bell housings.
the brief look i had under the bonnet, is if they did bolt striaght, up then the fire wall will have a serious date with a sledge hammer, but if i were to run a spacer between the bell housing and the m62 and flexiplate then i could space it forward to clear fire wall.

so any BMW to rover gurus out there???

I have no idea if it will work or not.
What I want to know is how well do those Chinese lockers work?
They are cheap but are they any good?

the m62 uses a different gearbox that mates to a different box. The disco uses I belive a 6hp something and the m62 uses a 6hp26. They have different bellhousings and yould have to mess with flywheel/crank sensor/starter etc. Etc

well i got no complaints, they did a 3500 k trip a t xmas and worked well when required, i am careful to engage them before the going get s rough, the front is some times reluctant to engage and disengage, the rear is fine goes in and out happily,

would i buy them agian, yes and no,
if you have engineering skills, can fault find them when fitting, had to reqork both slip rings to work, and access to lathes etc then buy them

if you need to pay someone to sort them out then may as well get arbs.
btw mine are for toyota
cheers

from what i could find on the net the bmw probably earlier stuff uses the ZFhp22 auto as does the rover.
have since emailed a auto specialist and his comment was use the later torque convertor off the rover 4.6, which needs to change input shafts, he also suggested putting the bmw innards into the auto to take the extra torque.
i am leaning towards the swop bits around method and see what happens!!

A 4HP24 might be a better option. That's what the 4.6L discos and p38's came with. It's a little beefier than the 4HP22. There are ways to put some of the guts from one into the other.

Default M62 pfff now M70

well after lurking around i have started to sort out the lack of power that a 3.9 V8 supplies, and with the amount of gas it chews i want better performance to boot, contemplated a diesel, but then got offered a motor, the bmw M70 5.0l V12 with the ZF4hp24 auto still bolted to it, did a bit of research and discovered one can put the guts of the hp24 auto into the hp22 auto(disco) and use the hp22 valve body to drive the auto, eliminating the computer to drive the auto, will megasquirt the M70, got one sitting here, then a mate appeared with a little addon for the v12, a supercharger so not only will it use gas but is will go like hell!!!

a friend has a v12 bmw motor in a competition vehicle twin turbo'd running 8psi boost, has approx 420 kw of power, but due to the gearing of his vehicle he cant dyno it to get accurate figures as the dyno trips out about 4000rpm so above there the power is way higher......

got to finish current project supercharged V6 into a toyota hilux

Cheers
