Default New Power Steering Issue

Turned on my Disco to let the fresh power steering fluid enter the system (having just replaced the leaking hose last week) and noticed a fair amount of smoke coming from down below the engine on the drivers side. Dosent smell like burnt oil or transmission fluid. On closer expection I also noticed that fresh power steering fluid is now fluidly leaking from some fair sized cylinder shaped metal box, located on a beam via the drivers engine compartment. My HTC Desire is temp down so no pics, but Ill do my best to describe the location as I need help identifying the part and the problem: If your looking down into the engine compartment via under the bonnet, take note of the power steering resovior and move your attention closer to the air box, now look straight downwards and you will see a beam with a metal cylinder block attached to it. The leak is located directly below this part (possibly leaking from the bottom of this part). On the top of this block are attached 2 power steering hoses (including the new replacement hose I just installed).

Anyone have any ideas?

Sounds like you're talking about your power steering pump my friend. Does it also have the steering linkage running into it from the back (firewall) side?

Sounds like the steering box. Pretty common leak. They make seal kits for it, but on my 96 power steering stop leak worked great for me. Almost completely stopped seconds after putting it in. Seemed to get better as time went on.

Assuming this is the part you are talking about? Land Rover Steeriing Pump - Land Rover Steering Parts at Roverparts.com

Is the PS box and PS pump the same thing?

That is your steering box, it attaches to the frame.

Land Rover Steering Box For Discovery 1 Or Range Rover Classic Vehicles

Start looking on ebay and junk yards. I would try a bottle of ATF with stop leak in it first though.

Yup thats definitly the part! A fair amount of fluid leaks out, but the resovir still holds fluid so I ill TRY PS stop leak and see what happens. The part generally doesent seem to be a bad price, its the work Im worried about becasue its deeper in the compartment and it looks like alot of other parts need to be disasembled just to work on the box :s
