Noticed that my clutch pedal is a bit on the heavy side now, and occasionally it squeaks and clicks when I press and depress it.

I found a similar issue and solution on a blog by Defender 90 XS on his D90 whereby he used a little lubrication (they used some 3-in-1 oil) to lubricate the push rod attachment for their clutch pedal.

Does anyone have any tips on reaching the Discovery one? I looked at the engine bay, and could not see easy access to it, and under the dash it seems a bit of a challenge.

There's a couple of illustrations in manual to show what to look for. Not much to it, need head up there with light or use mirror.
