Default Mirror question

I have a 98 discovery with a auto-dim mirror that is toast. It is internally leaking fluid and there is yellow lines in the glass. I found a 04 discovery 2 mirror with home link, temp, and compass for $25 near me. I was wondering what I would need to do to install a disco 2 mirror in a disco 1 and if I would be able to use all of the features this new mirror has. Thanks

I don't think so. Mine was the same way and I think someone said you couldn't use one from a D2. Which is why I spent $100 on one from a D1.

Ok, so I did a search and Spike555 told me on this forum that it won't work. Different mountings and the D1 doesn't have the proper electrical components to make the mirror work (or something like that).

These guys remaufacture our type of mirrors for about $100. They did it to the mirror in my supercharged Jag and it works great. I'll be sending my Rover mirror in for them to fix also.

You can use the D2 mirror, You just need to get power to the different connections.
I have read on other forums that people have jumped wire from the overhead courtesy light.

I added a homelink to my D1 by jumping the power from the overhead light.

I just picked up a D2 mirror with a compass and will be installing in a few weeks.

Think about it, what do you need for a compass, auto dim, and Homelink? Power. Thats all.

fwiw...I bought a used D2 mirror off ebay, and the mount was the same as my '98...it fit fine and the compass calibrated itself, wiring was easy ( I could check the color code if you need) the D2 mirror didnt have the temp feature though.

If you could share the color codes that would be great!

Thanks.

The D2 mirror will fit. I almost put one in mine but I would have lost the map lights on my D1 mirror.
I think NUCLEARW has installed a GM mirror into his D1.

Maps are becoming hard to find. Most people use a GPS, navigation built into the radio, or their cell phone (so I have been told by my kids)
