Motor Mounts
Hey everyone, I own a DII but one of my friends has a DI and his motor mounts keep breaking on him. We do lots of rock crawling and technical runs so lots of torque in 4L with the CDL engaged.
SOOO .... we are thinking of installing solid metal mounts. How do you think they will perform. Also if anyone knows of any tougher mounts that the stock ones that might help.

I too broke many stock style mounts doing rock crawling and such, and finally went to QT mounts for the engine and using stock style (for now) in the back. I wasn't aware of M.I.T.'s mounts (MIT Automotive - Evergreen's only Land Rover and BMW Service and Repair Facility) when I bought the QTs - would have liked to check his out first (since he's local to me).

I don't doubt he keeps breaking stock motor mounts. AllMakes makes them and AllMakes makes crap rubber components. The Jag mounts are solid and proven. And you can get them for $35 shipped.
I have Allmakes mounts and the stud runs all the way through the rubber so they really only work on compression. In this case the quality of the rubber shouldn't affect their pull strength. You'd have to break the stud or pull one of the nuts off to break one.
Ummm, you realize the rubber is being compressed. So when that rubber fails(which it will because its AllMakes) it will no longer be under compression. Also, what makes you say the stud runs all the way through? I know for a fact the factory mounts were NOT stud through.
That's weird. Never seen one made with the stud through (unless it was a homebrew mount)... and I was running (and replacing) AllMakes mounts. Those Allmakes didn't last long enough to make them worth buying.
I thought about going Jag mounts, but just wanted to be done with it all. QT mounts took care of that, but they do transfer some vibration (worth it in my book). Also, in my case, they did push the engine up a bit higher than the stock height. I trimmed off the front portion of the fan shroud to clear the alternator pulley and belt.
