Yeah once I figured out you were confused I knew what you meant.

I may or may not get around to adding the skirts, it really depends how well the project is going and how much time I have. Looks better without it IMO.

Like I said, the skirts really won't affect approach angle in any significant way, I may at least do a mock-up to see how it looks.

It says you are allowed 30"
You are four wheel drive, with less than 10,000 lbs.

EDIT: Actually I read it again. There is no height measurement needed if you have a bumper installed in the stock location. I just has to be in the same place as the original, and at least 4.5 inches tall. The 30" is for trucks that are exempted.

K I reread it and exempted trucks measure to the frame rail. 4x4s under 10,000 lbs get up to 30 inches under the bumper. That I can live with, so I'll keep my original design and slice a Honda CRV in half if we ever have a wreck!

Can you post the overall dimensions. I was just given some really heavy steel frames that came off PLC racks from a US Steel Training center. These are 6 feet tall rectangular cabinet frames made from some awesome steel plate that is 8 inches wide with a formed lip on both sides. I keep looking at possibly cutting one into two pieces to make both a front and rear bumper.

I'll have to take some pics soon.

I will post some dimensions when they are definite. Won't know precisely what it needs to be until I take the bumper off and do a bit of a mock-up.

I have some updates from the last two weeks.

Removed the old bumper:

Used a CNC plasma cutter to cut out the fairlead opening:

Do not attempt to bend a winch tray like this unless you have a huge brake press. Even the giant Piranha press in the background took several tries to bend this completely:

Cut out the mounting plates with a hand-held plasma cutter:

Test-fitting the mounting plates:

Tack-welded two mounting plates together for each side, then marked and drilled holes:

Used the winch tray to even out the mounting plates:

Tack welded tray to mounting points:

Lots of welding:

That's all for now. More to come over the next few weeks.

welds look like they're def getting better. You're not recessing the winch into the grill at all? looks like it'll stick out a bit, but on the whole very exciting project. Keep it up. Gonna powder coat it or rattle can it?
