Default Need Advice regarding '96 Discovery I

Hello all. I am new to this forum to please have patience. I bought a 1996 Discovery I for my daughter to drive while in college. I did a good bit of work, new injectors, brakes, hoses, fuel pump, etc. It ran fantastic and I drove it to my daughter in Texas to use while she was at he University. I like the LR so much that I told her I would buy it from her, which I did last month, sight unseen. I went to pick it up and found that it had been run hot and was steaming from the exhaust. I live 750 miles away and need some advice on repairing it there in San Marcos, Tx or attempting to haul it back to Georgia. I may just cut my losses and sell it, but I really want to fix it and drive it daily. Any advice will be most appreciated!

Worst case scenario you are looking at a head gasket. $2000-3500 job depending on the shop you use and how many other "while you're in there" items you want to replace/renew.

Are you losing coolant and need to refill the reservoir frequently? Are there exhaust gasses in the coolant (can purchase a test from auto parts store).

It is difficult to say much more without any info

That is not the worst case scenario. Cracked cylinder wall/liner would be the winner.

You should have it towed here and see what they say

You can do it yourself for FAR less, even with having the heads skimmed.

KSeal has kept my 98 on the road for over a year after finding that it has a cracked block. Just trying to decide if I want to drop a long block in it. A leak down test should pin point the issue for you.
