Well well - really interesting what Overland Engineering found that left me stranded in Maine after a cross country trip - my Transfer Case was empty ! no obvious leaks - the transfer case oil was changed about 10k miles ago by well known LR independent shop in Santa Fe and I watched them do it - now looking at a swap out or rebuild - no obvious spots on my drive to tip me off - where did the oil go ? this is a 30K mile change item - I made 4 previous cross-country trips with no problem - strange

Matt Browne is an awesome dude.

It has to be leaking somewhere unless they forgot to put the fluid back in

it appears that the breather hose on top of the transfer case slipped out of the holding bracket - it ended up being on the exhaust and melted shut - forcing the gear oil to spray out thru a gasket and coat the bottom of my Disco - thus no drips or leaks on the drive - and running it dry and causing it to break the bearing and finally seize the gears up - what a mess that was - I was saved by Matt Browne at Overland Engineering in the Portland ME area
