Default Need some advice on cracked Discovery 1 door panel

Hey everyone. Im trying to get my rover back in decent shape and my door panels are cracked from the hot Georgia sun. I'm thinking about putting some sort of filler in there like caulk type of stuff, and color matching the Bahama beige paint and painting it. Does anyone know if this will work or have any better ideas? I can't seem to find any affordable door panels near me or junkyards with D1s. Below is a picture of it.

Ive been thinking of doing the same to one that I just picked up but I need to do some research on what materials to use first. Well, and get it running

My first calls would be to Paul Grant and Will Tillery who part-out these trucks for a living. I've always had good experiences buying parts from both.

Any D1 door card that has seen the sun does this. Finding a replacement without it is very difficult, but possible I suppose. Mine has it a bit but I haven’t attempted to fix it for fear of making it worse. Again, getting a replacement isn’t really an option and making it worse would just tick me off. I believe there are various color duct tapes and a beige might be an option to concealing it. Maybe it could be sanded? If you find a door card from a donor for cheeeap, practice on it first.

I would think finding a replacement used door card relatively damn easy. Neither of my discos have this issue.... Paul grant, will Tillery eBay. Undamaged ones are not exactly scarce. Just seems like a lot of work for an end result that’s probably not great.

I can find them, the problem is affording them. At the moment being a college student doesn't leave me a whole lot of wiggle room to pay three or four hundred dollars for replacement panels. If I can find one cheaper i'll get it. I suppose I'll just keep an eye out for junkyard discos.

$300-400 for a D1 door card? I wouldn't pay more than a $100. Check all the local LKQ's and pull-a-parts every week and see if they get any in. All the ones Ive ever seen had the "burned" look on the top panel to some extent but they were drivers side only. The rear cards are probably in decent shape since they were behind tint and not used as much as the fronts. These trucks are 20+ yeas old and most are on owner number 5 or 6 and up. I'll look around and see if I come across anything. Paul and Will would be my first stop.

Yeah I check pull-a-part pretty regularly, I went to one and found two disco 1s a few months back but they were basically nothing but the frame by the time I got to them. I'll email paul and will tomorrow morning. My rear panels are in good shape, it's just the front ones I need. Just got to be a little more patient and wait for one to pop up.

Yea.... 3 or 4 hundred for a door card is absolutely ridiculous. I bought an entire door for a 100 bucks a while back. If I were to find one on ebay I’d think I was getting ripped off if I paid more than 50 bucks for a silly Bahamas beige door card. There are a jillion of them out there. The tricky interior piece to find (in the states) is a grey manual transmission SD center console. As an example, here is a rear door card on eBay that looks pristine with the wood and leather details for 20 bucks. (Plus 20 for shipping) so 40 all in. Including image because posting will expire before anyone actually reads this.
