Default Need Valve Cover Gasket Help From Fellow Member Near Myrtle Beach?

I'm fully aware that some of you will take this as an opportunity to make fun of me because I don't have the tools or experience necessary to tackle this. Feel free just know that I'll come back twice as hard. So if your not here to help I'd suggest not adding anything, you know who you are.

I have tried tightening my bolts to 15 lbs but I definetly need a new set of gaskets. I have gotten an estimate at $300 but we all know this is a 3 hour job for someone that knows they're way around this motor. I'd love to do the work myself but I need a tutor/guide or its not gonna happen. What I'm offering is to
1. Pay you or someone you know to do the work at a fair price.
2. Work with you and learn to do it. Which is obviously what I'd prefer and is the point of the forum

I'd also like to tackle the FJ spring lift detailed in this forum while I'm at it. If you would as well I'd be happy to buy you a set of springs and we can do it all at once or anything else you need done. I think its the least I can do. Obviously it won't cost you anything in materials just a Saturday or Sunday. Pm me if interested.

Hmmm...I don't even know where Myrtle Beach is. Doing the valve covers really is an easy job. You can do it without any prior experience, just make sure you give yourself 5 hours so you can go at it nice and slow. Unless someone lives near you that will lend some hands-on know-how. The FJ lift is a piece of cake. Just be prepared to jack the body off the axle to get the articulation needed to replace the springs, or go to harbour freight and get a set of spring compactors to use so you don't have to jack the body up as far.

Seriously, the jobs are so easy, even a redneck could do it!(no offense intended Danny. My wife says I'm a redneck)

chris its easy for you because you've got experience with what goes where and does what. Just like tearing down a Windows phone 7 and installing a new digitizer is easy for me with no guide's, photo's or tutorials. I'm hoping to find someone local that can guide me and I can help out in the process. Myrtle Beach is the exact opposite of where you are, lol. Although if you ever want to do a house swap for a week or two let me know. I've always wanted to get up there.

IYeah, it is easy for a mechanic to say it's easy to do. But I have 5 brothers, 2 of them can do simple repairs, the other 3 are retarded around cars. But I did manage to show my younger brother(one of the retarded ones) how to change the fluids, spark plugs and filters in his Cherokee and do the brakes on his escort wagon. All he needed was to be shown once and guided through the process. Now he isn't afraid to do the work, but he is still cautious and uses google to find his answers. There has to be someone that you know that can lend a hand...good luck.

Whoot, whoot Tweak Rover to the rescue. You pm me or call me. I can order the gaskets. Did you have any work you wanted to do? About 2 weeks ago I was at that Mexican place eating by the Home Depot in Shallote and the Rover wouldn't start. I left it there all nigh and it cranked the next morning.

I love Myrtle Beach... spent alot of time there and at Pauley's Island as a kid. I'd love to help if I were closer.

Its funny Cosmic, Myrtle Beach is nothing like it used to be. If you want real, relaxed Coast SC you go to Murrels Inlet or Pawleys for the escape of MB. Pawleys is the beverly hills of the grand strand now.
