Default New Guy Alternator issues

New here, but have owned my 1997 Disco 1 for about 2 years now. Today my alternator crapped out. Any advise on where to purchase a new one, (best deal/original or better quality). Also what alternators will swap out, for example will a alternator from a disco 2 fit a disco 1? Just looking for parts that might be interchangeable, very few if any disco 1's in the junk yard, but a ton of disco 2's and a few range rovers. Love the truck just want to get it back on the road soon.

I replaced my D1 alt with an RRC unit from Rockauto for the higher output (I believe 120a compared to 100a in the D1 model). Direct swap, no issues. I'm pretty sure the D2 and RRC alts are the same. They might have slightly different pulley sizes but I haven't had any problems yet ~1500 on the swap.

Do I need to change the 100amp fuse? Just got back from the junkyard and pulled a 120amp alt from a 1997 Range Rover with the 4.0. Don’t want to get stranded somewhere with a blown fuse.

yes you should keep a spare 120 in the glove for when the 100 blows. I had a tough time finding the right size (FLB cartridge style) and amperage at my local stores, I finally got lucky at a Pepboys and bought all 5 that they had.
