Default d2 alternator on d1 ?

OK since I misheard someone (thought they said get a Bosch alt off d2 4.0 and add tach lead)

I now have a nice Bosch alt with tach lead and realized it uses a different bracket, anyone know if I can swap in the d2 bracket?

I do not have the bracket just trying to save more wasted time and $

Just tired of having issues with the french alts

dunno - but have heard that some Range alternators fit, and have more amps. The D1 is a whopping 100 amps.

First. the Magneti Marelli alternator is Italian (not French) and they have been around since 1919.

Second, only a Range Rover Classic alternator will fit/work not a P38 4.0L unless it's a GEMS otherwise your looking at another Bosch bracket.

To use an alternator off the Classic (some 4.2L used 150A alternators) or 94/95 Disco you'll have to swap the pulleys since they use a 3" and not a 2 1/4". Your tach will be lower rpms (@ -500rmps lower than what your used to seeing) if you use the larger pulley.

Even if you grabbed the Bosch bracket and mounted the alternator you'd soon find that it's pulley doesn't line up with the rest of them. Moot.

Sell the Bosch on CL or here.

The oem alternator can be rebuilt with good parts by a local shop. He won't be buying the China parts. Or you can buy re-man, but get the lifetime warranty and carry the receipt. They have a high failure rate. As for boneyard, the LKQ near me has a return policy.

There are write ups on the web for Delcos into older series Rovers, which had very small alternators to start with. As many partz vulturez that read this site fly low and fast over the junk yard, I'm surprised we have not had more posts about adapting common alternators. Rovers like more amps to feed the aftermarket rolling light show and paint removing sound system.

I have had it rebuilt still sucks, checked all grounds only get 12.2/13.5 volts and does not like a load like a/c,headlights etc. And yes the batt terminals are and tight

Sounds like a couple of diodes are blown, as it is a three phase generator, if you loose a couple it becomes a 33 amp alternator. I'm lucky to live near a good indy alternator shop, and the shop manager has a Rangie, an old Mercedes, and a DeLorean with flux capacitor.

Wonder how much Paul Grant gets for an alternator?

If low volts under load then it sure isn't carry the freight. I had one in another car that did that bad diode thing, normal on clear days. When rainy, with lights, AC, defrost, it could not keep up and battery would die while driving it.

If you can get something to fit, the Ultra Gauge can be your tach, it is driven by CKP and the ECU. It can also measure electrical volts and display that.
