New (to me) 96 Disco
First of all, thanks to everyone who helped me out with some immediate issues I was having. So now, I would like to introduce myself....
I just purchased a 96 Discovery SE7 with the hopes that I can make it my daily driver and primary winter vehicle. It has 160,000 miles on it and I bought it for a whopping $1000. I hope this is a good deal
This was a dealer trade-in and they wanted $3000 for the hunk of junk LOL.... I was sure this was headed to the D-Grade auction and they would be lucky to get $500 for it...
Anyway, the paint is oxidized, The brakes were spongy, the CEL is on, it sounds like crap, and it leaks oil like a sieve... There are also a bunch of other nagging little issues like a cracked headlight and so on and it appears to have just been neglected by the previous owners(s). So these were my talking points on getting the price down. It is probably safe to say that this thing will double in value with a full tank of gas
I have a fair amount of work to do to get this baby reconditioned, but there is very little rust, the interior is decent (but dirty), and the suspension feels pretty tight (at least to me). I need to fix the oil leak(s), the brakes, and the muffler and then I plan on trying to get Disco Mike's 60k service done before the winter hits. If this thing gets me through the winter I will be happy....
I just thought I would say hello and say thanks for the help as well as keeping this enthusiast group going!

Welcome!
And Rovers don't leak, they mark their territory.
I'm impressed you got a dealer down so far. Usually I buy private party because the dealers I run across are willing to wait for the right moron to come along and overpay by 200%. Kudos to you.
