New Member with Issues
Hey guys/gals,
I am new to the forum. So navigation and finding stuff is still not going well. I have an issue with my land rover discovery that I wanted to run by y'all to see if anyone has any ideas.
My issue is overheating. Specifically it overheats when not moving very fast and going slow (under 25ish) but once you start moving at speed its fine. Going up an incline is a problem even at speed. You see the temp gauge slowly rising.
I just replaced the water pump, thermostat, hoses, fan clutch and flushed the radiator. Still having the over heating problem. Any ideas on what this could be and remedies?
Thanks,
New guy with issues aka Jesse

Always good to include the year.
Could be expansion tank seam or cap or it could be head gaskets. Either is common.
What color is the expansion tank?
Could also be the fan clutch which is more likely the culprit since you mention it happens during slow speeds and hillclimbing.

Update the expansion tank to the white, replace it's cap with new for sure. Check the fan when warm with engine off. If it spins freely the clutch is toast. Should turn no more than a quarter to half a turn or there about. While your at it lift up on the fan, if it lifts up the water pump shaft that too is in need of replacement.
Good to hear the head gaskets are replaced.......
Rovahfarm.com is a great place to source new parts.

When the engine is warmed up check the radiator with a laser thermometer in multiple spots. The temp range should be close. If there are obvious cold spots then it is a radiator issue.
After that... could be a cylinder liner issue. Pull your plugs and see if any of them look different. A light brown color compared to the rest. If so, could eb bad news.
Why did they do the head gaskets in the first place???

Since your fan clutch is new let's rule that out for a moment.
Do you have the fan shroud on?
New cap for the coolant reservoir and be sure that reservoir is solid under 15 lbs pressure.
As the radiator flow tested? Flushing is nice but if it is still partially blocked the efficiency will fall.
