My fan clutch failed in the "free wheel" position, I did not know it was bad for well over a year.
I only figured it out while offroading in August with the a/c on for 6 hours, engine temp would climb, turned a/c off, engine cooled, turned a/c back on, temp went back up, repeat until trip was over.
A month or so later I installed a new fan clutch.
