Default New owner, Mass Air Sensor reading??

Hey all! I've got a 1996 SD that as far as I can tell is completely stock, 123,xxx miles. I've been getting 10mpg (265/75 Pirellis) and I think it should be a little better, running 89 octane fuel, I've watched the O2 sensors on my scanner and they switch proper, everything else looks proper but the MASS reading, it reads at idle 0.01 and may fluctuate up to 0.04 while driving. That doesn't seem right to me, I've tried another sensor with the same result. I've checked for voltage and found one with 13.4v, one with .10 and one with 0. Help!!!! Or I;m I just worried about nothing?

Try premium fuel. That is what the manufacture recommends. Also, have you done the 60k service? A basic tune up may be all that is needed.

A tune up is in the works, plugs, filters, fluid changes. I'll try the premium next tank. I have no clue about the 60k service, I'm assuming it was done the previous owner was pretty meticulous. You don't think that reading is a little unusual?

Cruise control has absolotely nothing to do with fuel economy or Anyting other than controling the throttle position when it is activated above 35 mph. The 60 k service is pretty much a must at any mileage when u have just aquired a rover. By doing it all you create a base line for service and can even find unknown "time bomb" components before they surprise you.

Those voltages... Is that in three diff maf's or one maf at the pins?

Ok I've got some good ideas here, I am going to let this tank run through, note the mileage and then upgrade to the premium. Going to get parts for the 60k today, I've got some Lucas in the tank and don't want to foul new plugs out.

The cruise lines were broke. They were pretty much all broke at the "T" near the driver cowl. I replaced all of them but found a funny spot. On the cruise control "motor" up near the headlight, I have two nipples for a hose, only the furthest forward had one on it, and it went to the "T," which the T went under the dash and to the throttle linkage. Where does the other one go? I couldnt tell on the underhood vacuum diagram.

The voltages in on my original Mass air, at each wire, the second mass air I tried read the same on the scanner so I was assuming the same voltage.

On another note, browsed around and found the bypass for the rear window ecm, they work great!!

A vacuum leak will cause a random misfire and/or a rough idle. Not sure what you mean by fouling the plugs with Lucas...you do realize that fuel additives are(contrary to what the makers say) NOT supposed to be used every fill-up?! They are for periodic fuel system cleaning. I never use more than one bottle of Lucas a year and maybe 2-3 bottles of HEET throughout the winter months. If your vehicle needs more than that, you have bigger issues or are just wasting your money. Running a good, high quality fuel and changing your fuel filter annually(if not more often) will help with that.

Congrats on getting the windows working!

Well the idle was smooth as glass before and after fixing that vacuum line and with the engine running none of the lines had vacuum, nonetheless I replaced them.

Of course I know about adding the Lucas I usually only do it right when I get a vehicle, and then maybe every couple years when I change the sparkplugs. I've just found that sometimes when I run it through/do the t-body spray that it sometimes gets a lot of funk on the plugs.

In the midst of modifying some screen door rollers to replace my broke ones on the rear window regs. $181 bucks for regulators because they don't make that plastic bushing seperate! Are you kidding me!!! Lol
