New Transmission worth it?
Hey guys recently a used transmission from 99 sd with 92000 miles on it has popped up in my area. Currently, I have a 96 sd with 150000 on the tranny and engine. My engine runs pretty strong and proud, as most of them do. The transmission however struggles with shifting at times and gets worse as it gets hotter, so I'm assuming a metal issue instead of seals and such. Tranny fluid is red on the dipstick. This 'new' transmission is only $500 so I'm thinking its worth a shot, or to have lying around when my tranny eventually goes out. thoughts?

Personally, I think $500 is a bit steep for a used transmission with that many miles, which may or may not have problems of it’s own (unless it’s rebuilt). Especially if your planning on installing it yourself.
Have you taken a hard look in to fixing the current transmission you have? Like changing the fluid, or adding Lucas Stop Slip? Have you changed the filter?
