Default No crank

Just put my 1998 back together after doing head gaskets and it won’t crank. I can hear 2 relays clicking. One under the drivers seat and one in the passenger footwell. Check voltage to the starter and have 0 volts to the smaller wire when in the start position. I am able to get the car to crank by jumping power to the solenoid. Where is the next step ?

I can also get the car to crank if I jump from pin 87 to 30 at tue relay. I bench tested the relay and the relay works. What would cause no power to the relay?

Maybe a blown fuse or wiring or ignition switch problem. The wiring diagrams are very helpful for this, otherwise just guessing, but check for a blown fuse first.

Got it to start by grounding the ground pin at the starter relay. But the car won’t accelerate and the Speedo doesn’t work. Could this all be anti theft system ? Looking at the wiring diagram the anti theft system interrupts the ground to the starter relay. Does the antitheft system also keep the car from running correctly?

Ba
Bank 1 fuel trims are way high. When doing the head gasket I found the bank one cat element was loose so I emptied it out could this be causeing the fuel trims or are fuel trims only controlled by upstream 02s?

Since you did the head gasket you should re-set the adaptive values. Allow the computer to 're-learn' the engine. Now it is using old data/algorithm on a 'new' engine.

Regarding your question, trims are controlled by the upstream sensors only.

Short term trim stuck near 25% might indicate a faulty O2 sensor. That happened on my 96.
