No turn lights, wipers and horn
Hi!
I am an owner of a Land Rover Discovery 1 300tdi 1995’. I like it, because I feel it reliable and quite comfortable. It is good for camping and long distance travel. I also like that there is little electronics, it is almost analogue. Nevertheless there are some electrical issues that can drive you crazy, like this one. Check it out!
The issue:
When I turn on the right turn light (the left is fine) the relay starts clicking fast and the front sidelight is blinking fast instead of the turn light. Rear right turn signal blinks fast as the relay clicks.
When I turn on the wipers they move for 2-3 cm and then stop. The turn signal indicator on the dash glows dimly. The bulbs under the fascia (these for the heating system switches) turn on. In this position if I turn on the right turn signal nothing happens, relay stays quiet.
When I press horn button it turns on the same sidelight, dash indicator for turn signals glow dimly.
The investigation:
All bulbs are fine, checked them. Even switched the turn lights just for the test, but nothing changed.
All fuses are fine, I even checked them with multimeter.
I changed the headlight switch with a new one and nothing changed. Checked the wiper switch and cleaned it, but it was fine.
When I disconnect the wiper switch the turn signal problem is still here. Even if I pull out the wiper fuse from the fusebox.
Maybe a bad relay? OK, I changed them all, just to be sure.
The strange thing is that this issue fixed itself and then started again. Twice. The first time it fixed itself for no apparent reason, I was just clicking the turn signals and wipers, trying to figure out the what was causing it. But the next day it happened again. I thought it was the headlight and turn light switch, that is why I changed it. But this didn’t help. Second time it fixed itself was when I was clicking all the switches nervously - headlight, turn signals, wipers and hazards. I thought it might have been the hazards button. Everything was fine until the next day when it started again. I pulled out the hazards button, checked it, cleaned it inside, put it back and nothing changed. It was 10-15 minutes after a car wash so maybe there might be something connected to moisture or water. But if so, why the nervous clicking helped? There is no visible water inside the car, not even moisture.
I really hope you know the right answer. I’m pretty sure it is something very little out there, but only if I can find it…
Thanks in advance!

I had an issue in my 96 D1 when I would use my left turn signal and it would flash rapidly while the right one was fine. I cleaned the connection between the left front turn signal bulb and the connector and it solved my problem
