Not starting.....fuel pump?
'96 DI 112K miles.
Well I go out to crank the truck this a.m. and it wont fire. Yesterday afternoon I had a small issue getting it started while the engine was warm, but it eventually cranked after a few minutes.
It ran on ether this morning but as soon as I stopped spraying the ether into the intake it would die.
I replaced the fuel filter around 105K miles so I wouldn't think that would be clogged already.
I've been browsing this thread for replacement parts, etc...
https://landroverforums.com/forum/sh...mp+replacement
What else should I check before I really dig into this thing and replace/test the pump? Being a poor college student I'd rather not have to replace the entire assembly so replacing the pump alone if necessary is sounding pretty appealing.
All help is appreciated. Thanks fellas!

There is a shrader valve on the passenger side of the fuel rail. A standard tire pressure gauge will work fine. Just have a rag wrapped around it( just the end) when you check the pressure as a little fuel will spray out initially(if there is fuel pressure).
I recently replaced my original fuel pump assembly after dicking with trying to fix the damn things for over a week. I finally ordered a ProLine from Rovers North for $105 complete. I even saw where they are down to like $99 or so. Since yours is a 96, it is is same as mine, Pre-AEL. Mine is an early 97, mfg in mid 96.
The top of mine had a severe crack by the return port (in arrow) and I could not resolve that without a leak. The rest of the assembly worked fine. After trying to epoxy new lines in place I gave up and replaced it with the one from Rovers North. I should have ordered it from the start, but I was trying to save few bucks as well.
If the top of yours is good, you could remove it from your assembly and sub my old one in it's place. Or you could take the actual pump off and replace yours with it if just your pump is bad. I got some pics here. Sadly I did not photograph the new one, I just installed it as soon as I got it. It works fine and I am very happy with the Pro-line. I really recommend it over trying a repair. If you can't afford a hundred bucks then here's an alternative.
If you want my old one, PM me. I did not want to throw it away, but I don't realy need it or want it. Basically you can have my old one if you cover shipping. It might fit in a Flate Rate box from USPS.
Let me know, Good Luck.
One qucik way to see if yours is pumping is see if it has pressure when you take gas cap off. A standard dial type air pressure guage will work to read pressure on fuel rail, I have never done that. My new fuel pump gives me a really strong hiss when I undo fuel cap. With the old one with the cracked plastic top it barely hissed.
