Smile 2000 D2 Cranks has spark no fuel pump sound fires with starting fluid.

Ok this thing is driving me crazy. Here is what happened.

Noticed that the heater hose that attaches to to breather assembly was leaking. Ordered the part and replaced the silver box, gasket and hoses. Reassembled everything and it ran great. Drove to work the next morning about 35 miles and parked. Went out to leave several hours later and it cranked but would not start or even attempted to sound like it was firing. Towed home.

Checked the following:
Fuel pump not making any noise when you turn key.
Tried resetting the inertia switch no luck so unplugged and jumped switch with no luck.
Loosened intake breather and sprayed some starting fluid into the intake and it acted like it wanted to start but did not have enought fuel. Figure I have spark.
Swapped out fuel pump with one from Overland Rovers here in KY. Still no luck.
Tried relay at same time no luck.
Double and Triple checked all connectors and wires that I would have disconnected on breather when fixing coolent leak and everything is intact. Nothing appears to be shorting out or melted.

I am completely at a loss. I have spark but no fuel.

I don't think its possible that the crank sensor would affect the fuel pump working or not working would it? It does not even fire one bit without starting fluid.

When I jumped the inertia switch I just unplugged it and used a short section of wire to complete the circuit with no luck.

I cannot imagine its another bad fuel pump.

Just trying to fix it myself before I give in and call my friends over at Ed's Rover Service.

Whewwwwweeee.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Bad crank sensor, the crank sensor sends a signal to the fuel pump to turn it on.

Have you checked the fuel pump pressure at the fuel rail?

Normal fuel pressure reading on a D2 is 50 lb. Connect a fuel pressure gauge at the rail turn the key to position II and you'll have your pressure reading.

Also, make sure you reattach the enerita switch or it won't start.

OMG it's ALIVE!!!! Crank position sensor was it!

Word of advice for replacing this. Be prepared to contort your arms into postions that would challenge Stretch Armstrong to get to the sensor and the plug that holds it. Stock up on the GOJO too because I got grease on me in places I didn't think existed.

I appreciate eveyone's help. The Sticky on this was a big help too.
