The new ones are white/milk jug color. If there is a truck in the boneyard, get alternator and MAF sensor also if you can afford it.

I just snagged a maf, going back to check for TPS sensors and expansion tanks. Not sure what years came with the white tanks. My 94 has a white one too but I had to put one on the 98 after is blew up.

Well I traced the leak, lower rad hose has two holes near the water pump that spray on to the fan and belts throwing coolant everywhere!

Easy DIY fix or should I go to a shop on Monday?

Just a follow up to this issue.

Replaced lower radiator hose, and the fan clutch seemed to be suspect as well by not engaging properly.

Replaced the known leaking rad hose, and decided to be proactive and replace the fan clutch as well.

With the new fan clutch, I really really notice the noise when pulling away from being stationary. Usually seems loud the first couple hundred feet until I am in to 4th or 5th gear.

Just wondering if I missed something, or because my fan clutch was so bad before I forgot how loud they can be?

Cheers, and thank you

If you bought a heavy duty clutch it will stay engaged longer at higher power coupling and make that roar. You will growl also when you see the mpg....

Savannah Buzz - Thank you for the quick reply Just was not sure... my old fan clutch was to the point of easily being able to stop it with ones fingers... and then it would take a few seconds to start spinning, but always easily stopped with fingers.

So far after the engine top end rebuild, new O2 sensors, and various bits I am getting about 14.5 MPG (using the GasCubby app to track mileage). I guess I will have to wait and see what the new fan clutch does

re: always easily stopped with fingers.

I say the same thing to you as other grad students - you think field work is hard? Try doing it with no fingers or blind! Safety is job 1.

Yes, you can stop a weak clutch spinning a fan with fingers, or gloved hand, or rolled up magazine.

But if you guess wrong, or the clutch heats up just a little more and engages, you could be looking at some real pain, not just the kind in your wallet. They'll call you "Stubby".

Noobs - please don't do this.

Heh, I was smart... my mechanic showed me after he deduced the fan clutch was not engaging... I would not dare stick my fingers anywhere near the fan clutch
