So we got stuck in some mud and realized we need some recovery essentials.
I thought I'd ask here what you guys thoughts are with Harbor Freight and/or Tractor Supply winch, hi-lift jack, sand tracks, etc.
Which winch will fit my bumper?
I do quite a bit of offroading. I have the badlands apex 12k winch and it's never let me down. You'd need a tree saver strap, 10, 20, and 30 foot straps, kinetic rope the longer and thicker the better, soft shackles, d ring shackles, a winch ring and pulley type block and tackle...I can't remember what it's called. Check out Matt's offroad recovery on YouTube, theyre a recovery company in the moab area and talk through what they're doing and why, its a good spot to learn

Thanks for the reply. I did get a ZE Super 9500lbs winch and a hi-lift jack. I'll check out Matt's Offroad Recovery. We were JUST in Moab last month hitting the trails.
Heading down to South Padre Island in a couple weeks so sand tracks might be in our future. I picked up a Voyager roof rack so need to get it loaded up with... stuff! LOL

Gear wise:
Auminum traction boards look proper on a disco but are largely overkill
Plastic traction boards are likely fine for light to medium duty usage. Even the short ones are great compared to floor mats trick.
Recovery ropes and soft shackles all around. There are expensive ones and cheap ones, as long as you are at smittybuilt or higher levels of pricing you likely wont die but its probably closer to single use. Expensive fancy ones are the ticket if you want to spend money. ****** block nice to have as well.
Disco has pretty accessible from the factory shackle points which is nice, even nicer if you have a fancy bumper.
In my opinion the hilift is pretty useless and fairly dangerous for most stuck truck situations. The jack points on the disco even with a bumper are extremely sketchy. You can get a running board adapter for it but you will likely bend them if they arent made for jacking. They suck as a come-along and they suck as a jack. Id much rather carry a bottle jack or two and a piece of 2x6 for any sort of offroad jacking, especially if you intend to throw a winch on.
