Oil Changes
I was reading in my owners manual about the proper oil change procedure.... it said NOT to remove the oil filter w/ the engine drained in order to prevent draining the oild pump.
How are you supposed to do that w/out getting oil all over the place?? Is this common LR practice?
On other vehicles, I've always drained the engine, then removed and replaced the filter, then refill.

When I change the oil on my equipment at work, I always remove the old filter, fill the new filter and install, then drain oil and add new oil. In that order. I do this out of convinience because the oil filter is usually not within reach of the drain pan when I'm draining from the drain plug. Less mess.

What I've been doing for the past 10 years on my '95:
1. Drain oil from sump
2. Remove oil filter
3. Fill new filter mostly full with oil and fit
4. Replace sump drain plug and fill with 6qts oil
5. Remove ignition fuse
6. Crank until oil light goes out
7. Replace fuse and start engine.
About 1/2 the time I just start the engine after step 4.
