Oil cooler lines subject to failure like Defenders?
Hey guys,
Just bought a '99 D1, and noticed the oil cooler lines are routed within about 2" of the exhaust manifold. I changed the lines in our '94 Defender because they had a bad habit of failing, spraying oil onto the exhaust manifold and starting a fire. Just wondering if the D1s have a similar propensity, and if so, what is the best fix.
Thanks,
Pete

I've heard of guys putting heat-shielding sleeves on the rubber part of the lines to protect them. Don't know what they used or where they got them though...maybe like a Kevlar-type deal that goes on spark plug wires.
These are the lines I put on my Defender a couple years ago. I know they were pricey, but I don't think I paid THAT much for 'em...yikes! Not sure if they'll work on the D1 yet or not.

I wonder if you could go to www.summitracing.com and buy the braided lines and fittings yourself and save a few bucks.

There is a commercial hydraulic hose shop here in Pittsburgh that had an ad on here saying they will custom manufacture replacement hose while you wait, R.L.Miller Inc, Pittsburgh :
