Default Oil Pan tips and tricks

Im about to bolt on my new oil pan. Niether truck had a gasket only black RTV. They both had a thick bead in the middle front and rear. Is this a good idea? Any little tid bits are appreciated.

It will seal better than the gasket, but it'll be a nightmare to remove in the future. Pick your compromise.

the silicone rtv is a pain to remove, but I haven't had a problem cleaning up the "right stuff" gasket maker

by the way, it's "right stuff" not "great stuff" great stuff is the expanding foam!
