P0016 code
Okay, as some of you know, I've been having issues with high temps, but think I actually have it resolved!! All those new parts & it was the AC condenser which was plugged with trash. Has been running no higher than 195 (even in traffic) for days and the gauge has been running right at the 8:00 position. Well, things were going so good, I thought I'd see if the AC would act up like it has where the gauge would jump to the red as soon as I hit the button, well, it didn't & remained steady, but the temp on my ultraGauge dropped slowly to 114 degrees from 188 degrees, and got a pending code of P0116. Oh boy!!!! as one door closes, another opens
What the heck would cause this??

Stuck open thermostat. Or too many holes drilled in flange of thermostat.
Bad coolant sensor
Grounding of engine block to chassis (use a battery jumper cable from negative battery to engine block to test).
Wiring harness short on the two wire coolant sensor. That runs the OBDII port, and ECU. The single wire runs the heat gauge. Does heat gauge also track this drop?
Pix of radiator fur and sensors

Nope, nope & nope. New thermostat dipped in boiling water & working at 180 degrees. No extra holes in the flange & the sensors are brand new too (all part of the $1000+ cooling system job from last week just to find out it was the AC condenser fins that were plugged clean tight with junk). This is an instant split-second change in temperature reading on the UltraGauge, so the electrical short seems the most logical bet to me. Think this might be tied to the dying alternator? Only pushing bout 12.6 volts...
Fix the alternator problems first, then see if electrical gremlins have relocated. Try the ground strap, when you have an instant change that sounds like electrical. Electrical will try to find a new path to ground if you remove the main bonds.
Did you read over my cooling problems posts, I thought we covered blocked air pathways?
I did have a thermostat that pretended to be open, it had slid down in the mounting process and left a skinny 1/4 moon shaped opening, the flange was still under the thermostat cover and the gasket sealed it all up.

Yes I did read your posts but didn't catch the part of the condenser filling up with trash. Live & learn!! At least I don't have to replace any of those parts for the foreseeable future
It must be electrical. I just drove 350 miles @ 85 & the gauge never moved off 185 degrees the whole way. Well with the exception of hitting the AC button which drove the temp down to 113 0r 114 degrees & instantly gave me a P0116 code. Turned it off, and right back to 185. Definitely a short. Picked up a new LR alternator at the LR dealer when I pulled in town here (boy was that expensive!!). Will throw it on tomorrow & see what happens.
