WOW that's UGLY! I can't say I've seen a Rover V8 do this before.

Next STEP..... Autopsy.

If you have a scope start by having a look first. Rotate the crank down with a 15/16" socket on the crank pulley bolt to get a better look.
Unfortunately in the end you are still looking at removing the head to have a proper look at any damage and make repairs.
But lets hope for the best.

Good Luck!

Or the Other OPTION.....too soon I know...sorry.

I'll get may hands on a bore scope this weekend and report whats it looks like on the inside.
So this #8 bugger has been the cause of my ticking sound. Seems to always be something.

Thanks

Turn the crankshaft to the RIGHT (drivers side), so clockwise.

And if you haven't already, pull the rest of the spark plugs. Also remove the serpentine belt.
The engine will rotate either way, but just far easier with the plugs and belt removed.

Thanks OverRover,
I'll do this in the morning and report the results.

Thanks

That jacked plug was from a set of Advanced Autos AutoLite plugs.
I am back to the proper Champion plugs now!
