Hello again,

Got everything taken apart and here is how she looks.
Valve stem on #8 broke.
The head gasket looks to be in good condition with no missing material, no sign of any coolant in the oil.

Oh the HORROR!!!!!

IMHO, based on these pics it's time to source a decent set of heads.
Start with a PM to abran & paul grant they should have something decent, and at a good price.
The rest of the bits to replace are obvious.
I would just look at this as a complete topend rebuild and have at it.
But that's just me, your rig...your choice.
Embrace the suck, but don't try to do a quick fix. If one valve just took a $hit guess which one is next.
Good Luck!!!

Thanks OverRover.
Trying to source a ready to go pair of heads now rather than replace just one valve to be on the safe side

Thanks

UPDATE
I got everything all cleaned up and was able to source a pair of clean and reconditioned cylinder heads. Got them installed along with all new gaskets, bolts, and a fuel filter and she fired right up.

This was my first head gasket job. I just took parts off and off and off till I got to the head. The only pain was getting the valley gasket holes to line up on the block. I simply stayed with in until it was done. Fired it up when all complete and it sounded much better. Had a small amount a smoke coming from the manifold, not sure if it was from oil or a possible leak farther down.

In the end I have to once again thank this site for all the helpful threads on this matter.

Thanks!

It's very good to hear you stuck with it and sorted this mess out!

And maybe more importantly you didn't have to use PLAN B

Agreed!
I had to stay with it. Now that I got that under my belt I am more confident about future repairs.

Thanks again!
