YUP. One reason we need to clean the intake tract out regularly is because we are sucking dirty oil fumes out of the valve cover (crankcase vent) and redepositing them in the intake...another good reason to change your oil regularly.....

This is nothing new. PCV has been around since the 50's for military applications and by the late 60's it was required on most American cars. Before that a lot of american engines had what was called a "road draft tube" that basically just vented to the ground. (a little bit of negative pressure applied by air moving across the tube opening.)
