That's the spirit... Treat the 98 as a puzzle to play with... It will be amazing the amount of knowledge you will obtain from it and therefore be able to apply to the 97... I am by no means an expert from my 94, but I can tell you I am much closer as a result of owning one... Tis a difficult thing to crawl into the mind of a British engineer... I still find myself at a loss when I try to understand just why they chose to go the routes they did...

I put a 300TDI in my '95. Kept the ECU. You can have it for shipping. ( But, eh, they are cheap on Ebay. ) Mine was running great, when I pulled the engine.

I got the heater problem going here myself...it will overheat, but still no heat - so will try to blow it out with a garden hose. You may have jumped from the frying pan into..., but guess at least we all knew what we were getting into. Keep a stiff upper lip.

My over heating was the darn fan clutch... It would work fine till it got warm then it provided near zero drive to the fan... I put the chevy x-reference one in but it too went up in 6 months... I then went with the heavy duty chevy truck one and it's been great ever since... Makes a bit of fan roaring like a truck, but I have no heating issues...

For the lack of cabin heat, have you confirmed the vacuum operated anti circulation vavle is operating correctly ??? I lost the vacuum source to mine and it caused a lack of cabin heat... Replaced the vacuum line and all is good...

Hey I just got the email about the thread I would be interested in the ecu out of the 95 but I'm wondering if it will work in the 98??? I had thoughts of swapping ECUs from my 97 to see if it was the problem but I'm worried about screwing it up I love the 97 and it's running great so I hate to take the chance please let me know about your ecu and we will see what we can do

Hi Wolfs:

Email me your Postal Address to Bruce Bindon Indanao@telus.net.
I will Post it to you ( have no idea how much it costs - but, just
standard mail ), and after you receive it just send me the Postage.

It would take a larger brain than mine to tell you if it fits.

Thanks:
Bruce Bindon

It will fit, but a 95 won't work on a 98. 97-99 has the evaporative fuel system. In addition it's a good idea to mate the alarm box(green thing under the dash)with ECU as sometimes they do not work independent of each other.

Hope you guys are still following this. I purchased this disco and it has been an adventure. I attached a link from landroversonly, but noone there seems to respond to anything. I am refreshed by the ideas you guys had, and I to am thinking this isan ECM issue. I purchased one off ebaybut it will not work with my alarm. Do Ihave to tow this thing to the dealer to get it matched with the alarm ECM?
