Plug Fouling 96 D1. All plugs.
Trucks sitting at the rover dealer.
It actually started and I was able to limp it over to the dealer. They are going to testbook in tomorrow afternoon. While there and talking to the service manager about the whole situation, and showing him what I have done, what was supposedly done, how it was running etc, I turned off the truck and stuck the new ECM on. I didn't want to do it over at the other shop for fear it would not start or something and leave me having to call a tow truck to get it out of there.
Truck fired right up, and idled perfect... Of course there is a lot of over fuel build up so it was still smoking a little... Hopped in it and took if for a 10 block drive from rover... and it had POWER... no missing seemed strong... this might have actually solved it, I gunned it quite a few times to clear some of the crap out of it.
Still going to have them testbook it, make see what the truck is actually saying.
As far as the Mech goes...
I walked in, told him I was there for my truck. He could tell I was pissed of. He told his lackey to go get it (it was sitting across the street in a body shop storage lot). Lackey came back and handed me the keys and I left. The owner never even said 2 words to me.
I still think that he fbent me over for the 260 I paid him for his diagnostic work the first time... But, I was so pissed off it would have gotten ugly had he actually talked to me.
So consider this fair warning to avoid

Asshats....
Hopefully on to better now. BTW, a full testbook diagnostic over at the rover dealership cost 107.00...

I'm pretty excited, it's the best I have seen it run so far... the test results should be nice, at least they should give me a solid direction. Theres stuff to do still before I can get it on the road, the brakes are shot, it needs new springs and the fill line and vent line need to be replaced in the tank to stop that fuel spilling at full. Of course the oil will need to be changed again cause I'm sure it's full of gas again. And after all this, I'm still looking at redoing the head gaskets in the future as they are leaking a little. The seals around the rear quarter glass and the rear window also need to be replaced.
But, it's getting closer I think. The service manager said it was one of the nicest 96's he's seen in a long time. Even commented on how clean the engine compartment was lol. I told him, well thats what happens when you work on it for a solid year and not drive it, I got tired of getting dirty...
He pulled up all the service records on it also. As I said before this was a 1 owner truck, and they have records of it up to 2008. 2009 the guy let his bother drive it for a year and I know for a fact it was sitting in that parking lot from 2010 winter, till I bought it.
I'm going to have them print out the full service records tomorrow so I know what's new etc on the truck.

Sounds like your in a good place now for having a great machine!
Glad you were able to get it figured out - and just so I am sure I read it properly, it DID end up being the ECM, right?
Congrats on getting it running - and for leaving the other a$$clown breathing.

I didn't notice any corrosion etc on the plugs for the ECM, but it was already unhooked from the firewall. I'm thinking that the other guy did try and swap in a 95 ECM to test... which would be totally incompatible with a 96... Cause I didn't take the ECM off at anytime.
OK, so I went down to pick it up from the dealer today. Talked to the guy that worked on it etc, he said he was getting an error on both the original ECM and the used one I had, and they also tried the one they had there. Said the O2's and where shot and loaded up (duh, with the amount of raw fuel going threw I'm surprised the new cats are not plugged)
Well, they started up the truck and brought it over... smoking black as usual. He siad he had the original ECM in the truck. So I get in it and turn it over... completely fouled and will not start. Sigh... So I clean off on of the sets of plugs I have in the back and get them in... still turns over, no start. So grab the used ECM, same issue... check the plug wires etc, all good... So I take the original ECM apart. Sure enough, there is signs of water ingress and some corrosion inside... I grab the used ECM and take it apart, looks great... I swap 2 EPROM chips and put the used ECM back in with the EPROM from the original unit. Still no start. I have the guy come back out with the computer and tell him the computer has locked out the security system... At first he's like, no way, but goes ahead and plugs it in... sure enough, cleared it, reset it and bam started right up. Drove it home with cruise control at 70, hardly used any fuel in the hour drive, and it purred.
Actually runs better right now than either of the other 2 rovers I've had. If I didn't know for a fact the o2's need to be replaced, I would never think there was an issue right now.
So, new o2's on the way for the 2 fronts. Tomorrow I'm going to spend time sealing up the new ECM (I'm thinking of using some gasket seal around the lids, and creating something that protects the wire harness better...
Next up, Brakes, the fuel filler and vent line, and springs. (OEM) Anyone have a good set laying around?
But I can happily say this thread is FINALLY CLOSED!
