Default Power steering woes (video)

well ive never dealt with power steering before. im confident i could change the lines or the pump if it needed to be done. last night it was litterally pouring buckets of fluid and it was too dark to see where it was coming from so this morning i put it ramps to check it out and i got this:

i was told the lines were getting bad and were starting to drip so i set out to remove them this morning. very different story when i actually saw it. the lines still need to be done so it will be on my list of things to do while i get this figured out. problem is i have no idea how to even begin to fix it. dunno what its called. i know its connected to the steering box but is it part of it or do i have to replace the whole thing?

Your steering box is leaking. You'll probably want to check for another one. A reman would be a good option. Or if you're as broke as I am you might want to check for a used one.

Looks like the pitman(sp?) arm seal is leaking. I thought you could get a rebuild kit for these boxes?

This is a option as well. Found it on Rockauto's website. This is for a 95, I am not sure what year yours is but it is worth checking out.

You can always go to Rockauto.com and go through the catalog for your exact vehicle.

I wanted to do that with my box but my brother who is a mechanic advised me against it. He said that steering boxes were hard to put back together because. Maybe he was wrong, but I'm simply passing info along.

I know I am a technician, but I always felt, for the money, what do I have to lose? Could always replace it with a rebuild and do the seal kit later. Then you are not car down if it goes sideways and you have a back up on the shelf.

Never taken one out. I would consult the Rave manual.
