Purchase diesel in England transport to US?
Ok... Here's my new idea. Fly to London buy a Disco diesel. Ship to US for like $1500 get the truck purchased and shipped under $5000?
Diesel Discos last forever right? How cool would that be?

Would be sweet! you could also get a side job for the post office delivering mail to rural areas... consider it would be right hand drive and all.

Only way you'll get a diesel Disco in the US is to import the engine and vehicle separately. That being the case it's cheaper to buy a D1 here and have it converted than to pay all the import fees to bring one from England that has to be converted once it gets here. There are companies that import the Rover diesels and do conversions.
First, if you had done your homework you would see that you are entitled to bring only 1 vehicle in your lifetime into the States and it has to be 25 years or older.
As for converting one here, some have done it but there are only a few states that will then allow you to register them.
Go gas and be happy.

You can't bring in a <25 year old Rover even without an engine. You might slip it past customs as a parts vehicle, but I wouldn't suggest trying it.
Many people bring in more than one >25 year old Rover.
There are converted diesels registered in nearly every state.

Here's one that was imported recently: He didn't even fly to England. It was shipped over to him at the Port Of Baltimore where he had to pick it up from U.S.Customs after they inspected it. I know there are restrictions, but it is very doable if you have the time , money and patience.
